🛍️ Who Spends What

Ecommerce Market Analytics SaaS for Shopify Agencies and Developers
Solo project | Market validation, UX design, backend prototyping

🔍 Summary

Who Spends What was a SaaS analytics tool aimed at helping Shopify-focused agencies and app developers find high-value store prospects based on their spending behavior.

Instead of mass prospecting, users could filter stores by app spend, age, and installed tools — allowing them to “spearfish” for clients actively investing in their businesses.

💡 Problem I Tackled

Freelancers, agencies, and app founders waste countless hours targeting Shopify stores with little signal on who’s willing (or able) to pay. I wanted to solve this by:

  • Tracking when a store starts or stops using a paid app
  • Surfacing stores who were already spending on premium tools
  • Enabling filtered search based on spend level, store age, and niche

🛠 What I Built

  • ✅ Wrote all copy and messaging for the landing site
  • ✅ Designed a Figma mockup of the product UI for demo purposes
  • ✅ Coded a Python backend prototype to track app usage changes
  • ✅ Built and launched a full website (now lost, but archived)

🔥 Validation and Traction

Even pre-launch, I had:

  • 💰 Two agencies willing to pay $500/month for early access
  • 🤝 One investor offering funding in exchange for equity
  • 📬 Positive responses to cold outreach from ideal users

🧭 Why I Didn’t Launch

Although the feedback was strong, I made the decision to pause:

  • I didn’t want to give up steady freelance income at the time
  • I lacked the bandwidth to support the product long-term
  • I felt proud having identified a gap, built a solution, and validated the demand

💬 Customer Quotes from the Landing Page

✅ TL;DR

Even though it wasn’t launched, Who Spends What shows my ability to:

  • Spot real-world opportunities
  • Design useful tools
  • Communicate a compelling offer
  • Get real market traction early

This was a project I’m proud of — not for what it made, but for what it showed I can make.
